Cemeteries of Florida presents:

I didn't want to do this because I don't want to you to think that I'm being a snob and don't want email from you. However, I have noticed a trend with the questions that I've been getting. I felt that it would be better to deal with some of the easier ones here. That way, if I'm not able to get to your question quickly, you aren't stalled. (Something to avoid when on a hot roll on ancestor tracing.)

I am not affiliated or attached to any of the cemeteries that I have or will have on my site. I am not paid by anyone to do this site. It is all my own work.

Do you accept photos from outside contributors for your site?
No, I don't, and it's not personal or a judgement on your pictures. This is primarily to avoid copyright issues. However, I am willing to help (with advice primarily) anyone who wants to make a site from their photos and possibly link to them. Respectfully, I request that other sites not use the title "Cemeteries of Florida" for their web site.
Do you know where my relative is buried?
Probably not. I am not transcribing the contents of cemeteries. I am not doing this for genealogical purposes. I don't know how to search out someone. However, I can point you to genealogical sites that can tell you how to find people. Also, if I have the information, I will share it.
May I use your pictures?
Not without my express written permission for a specific picture(s). I retain the right to refuse if I feel that they will not be used in a respectful manner. If you need to use a photo, please send to me, by email, your snail mail address and how the photo will be used.
May I link to specific pictures?
No. Linking to someone else's image violates copyright law and is theft of bandwidth. Thus, this action is rude and illegal. Saving an image, placing it on your own server and using it on your site still violates copyright law and is illegal, unless you have my express written permission.
Where can I link?
Please link to the site (http://www.cemfla.com) unless we have discussed linking to a specific cemetery. (There are some sites and search engines that have linked to individual cemeteries without my approval.) Also, please let me know if you have linked to me. I would like to have the opportunity to see where I'm being linked from and to possibly reciprocate with a link from my site. Also, any links must exist on the publicly accessible portions of the World Wide Web, i.e. no pay-only, intranet, or member-restricted sites.
Where is "_______" Cemetery?
I probably don't know. There are approximately 10,000 known cemeteries in Florida (not including abandoned or neglected cemeteries). If I do know, I will tell you. I am presently attempting to compile a list from different sources that will list the cemeteries in Florida with as much information as I can find. This is taking a lot of time, so I don't know when this listing may appear.
Can you send me a list of cemeteries in "__________" area?
I probably can't. Many sites have partial lists. There are a few on Rootsweb that cover some of the less populated counties. Another place to try is Cemetery Junction, which lists the historical and/or genealogical groups in the entire country. Again, I am presently attempting to compile a list from different sources that will list the cemeteries in Florida with as much information as I can find.
When will you do "_______" Cemetery?
I don't know. This is a hobby. We are working folk and can get away only on a limited basis. But I am working on it. You could help me by giving me a clear cemetery name, good directions, interesting information about it and those buried there and maybe a good contact in case I get lost.
Why do you choose the cemeteries/headstones that you photograph?
I base my choices on many factors such as the following: age of cemetery, historical interest, what stone catches my eye. There are some graves that move me and compel me to photograph them. Sometimes, the grave is richly ornate and then other times, it is simple in its poverty. I can't explain it any better.
Would you take a picture of my relative's grave for me?
A definite possible maybe. I don't get to go out as often as I would like. However, I would be happy to make note so that I can keep my eye out for the grave. Directions to the grave would be helpful or authorization for me to contact the cemetery office for that information. I wouldn't charge much for the reprint, but I would still own the negative and retain the right to use it on my site. There is a site called Headstone Hunters that matches volunteers that will take photos for people who need photos.
