When I tell friends and family (strangers, too for that matter...) what the subject of my website is, the reaction that I sometimes get, and hope for, is "Wow! Great! What's the URL/address?" The other one, well, I'm learning to expect it: blank or puzzled look, "Why? Cemeteries? Ooohh, genealogy,...er, right?" Well, not really... "Looking for ghosts or spirits?" Definitely not. (don't know what I'll do if one finds me...)
I've always been interested in cemeteries and the monuments in them. I never know what I'll find. Sometimes there is enough information that I can figure out things about the person's life. Now, I have an exc...reason to go in and explore and take pictures to my film's limit. I really need to express gratitude for patience shown by my significant other, family and friends, all of which have been roped into at least one cemetery shoot. (First, I have to drag them in, then I can't get them to leave!)
When I first started web-surfing, I discovered 'Graveyards of Chicago'. Fascinated, I read and viewed all of it. Many hours later, I looked for a similar site for Florida. Thus, the concept for this site was born. Even though I am a native of Florida, I rely heavily on maps (Trakker, Rand McNally, AAA), research (scarce), and recommendations from viewers like you.
This brings me to the technical aspect of the essay. I use a Canon FTb with a 75-200mm zoom lens loaded with 800 ISO Fuji or Kodak Gold film. Wolf Camera does all my developing and printing. I use a Digital Research Technologies scanner. For graphic adjustments (crop and sharpen, mostly), JASC Paint Shop Pro 5.0 is the program of choice. Microsoft FrontPage Express 2.0™ and Notepad have been used to set up my code. WordPerfect 6.1 is what I use to catalog everything and to keep track of what I'm doing (not to mention the memo books and odd scraps of paper scattered everywhere!).
