Rondo Hatton
Florida
2 Lieut Infantry

Born Apr 22 1894
Died Feb 2 1945
In 1913, Rondo was a normal teenager at Hillsborough High School. He served in World War I and was injured by exposure to mustard gas. Afterwards, he developed acromegaly, a condition that causes the face, hands and feet to resume growth. By 1930 he had become a reporter for The Tampa Tribune. He had been sent to cover the filming in Tampa of 'Hell Harbor'. He was recruited to play a bartender in the movie. And that, as they say, was just the beginning. He went on to be in many movies, bit parts at first. Eventually, he did headline in horror movies. He had been advertised as 'the monster that needs no makeup.' Before any of his major movies were released, he died of a coronary thrombosis. Rondo Hatton, a veteran of World War I, a Tampa Tribune reporter, motion picture actor by chance, was only 51.
