Martí & Colon CemeteriesTampa, Florida |
![]() |
This is a complicated story of two
cemeteries that are side by side. The Martí Cemetery, named for the Cuban patriot Jose Martí, was established in 1896 by West Tampa, a separate town from 1895 until 1925. It was under private ownership at some point but has reverted back to the city of Tampa ![]() The Colon Cemetery was owned and operated by A.P. Boza, a funeral home owner. Since Boza's death, the ownership of Colon Cemetery is in legal limbo. It is presently maintained by the City of Tampa. There are scandals associated with Boza's ownership of this cemetery. |
