| There is a little-known historic settlement outside of Lakeland called Socrum Community. Thus the cemetery is named Socrum Cemetery. Since it is located next to Bethel Baptist Church, it is often mislabeled Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Also, there is a unconfirmed story that the cemetery used to be much larger. However, a sinkhole developed and swallowed a large number of graves and stones. This area is now a retention pond next to the church. |
