Leon S. Cazin, Sr.

This Tampa businessman was responsible for the founding of two krewes: the Latin American Fiesta Association in 1927 and the Gaucho Association in 1951. One usually hears the word 'krewe' in connection with Mardi Gras and New Orleans. However, in Tampa, that means Gasparilla Day, the day each year that Tampa is 'invaded' by pirates.
The mission of the Latin American Fiesta Association is to promote Tampa and preserve Latin culture. To this end, the Fiesta has served as good will ambassadors all over the country and the world. The Fiesta also awards scholarships.
The Gaucho Association is a separate organization, but was intended to serve as escorts for the young ladies in the Fiesta.
